Biography of the Founder El Hadj Oumarou KANAZOÉ

Born in 1927 in Yako in the province of Passoré (north of Burkina Faso) from a polygamous family, the only son of his mother and fatherless at the age of twelve (12) years, he had to work very early not only to catter for  his personal needs but also those of his beloved mother.
After six years of Koranic school, the little Oumarou made his first step in the weaving. It is already noted for his talent and perseverance. Its cotton of exceptional quality, were sold to Mali and Ghana. Trips that he did not hesitate at first to have there on foot.
Then in 1950, he invested his first earnings in a small restaurant in Yako. His business prospered and in 1955 he bought his first truck with which he began the trade of building materials and in transit between Ouagadougou and Abidjan. It was the beginning of a new and beautiful adventure for ten years after the park was estimated at 100 trucks linking up Ouagadougou and Abidjan in the movement of goods and passengers.
El Hadj Oumarou Kanazoé OK affectionately called was seen as the businessman the most experienced of the region. He founded the largest empire in Burkina Faso, the company Oumarou Kanazoé (OK) in 1973. The company OK since then has remained a national and even subregional reference in terms of buildings, public works, irrigation schemes, etc..
On November 2, 1995, he was elected president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
To mark its commitment to the religion, the man of hundreds of mosques was early involved in the non-paid constructions of places of worship for the faithful Muslims. Thus, in his assets is recorded over a hundred mosques built among which the great mosques of Ouagadougou, Pouytenga, Yako, Kaya and the largest mosque of Burkina under construction in Ouaga 2000. In recognition of his contribution to the nation building, consolidating peace, strengthening the unity, cohesion and understanding between peoples, to the defense of dialogue, tolerance, etc.. El Hadj Oumarou Kanazoé was made a Commander of the National Order in 2006 and Grand Officer of the Order of Merit in Burkina Faso in December 2008 by the President of Burkina Faso.
